There is an article on Dr. Joseph Mercola’s website featuring Boyan Slat, the young Dutch entrepreneur whose new Ocean Cleanup collection barge has been tested successfully. The barge will attempt to pick up plastic crap from the oceans and rivers.
This crap finds its way into the oceans and rivers because there are people who are lazy and can’t wait to find an appropriate trash bin, and so they litter their trash about. This is the main problem, in my view, as far as why there are plastic garbage materials all over the place. We do have laws against littering, don’t we?
One thing I disagree with on Dr. Mercola’s list of things to do to prevent plastic pollution is the suggestion of using reusable grocery bags. The problem with reusable grocery bags is that bacteria from food can get in the bags and cause an unhealthy situation. So, I personally recommend not doing that.
We can’t avoid all the plastics in the products we use and buy. There is nothing actually bad or harmful about plastics per se. The problem is littering, so stop doing that, everyone.
Anyway, I’m sure there are some readers who won’t like my saying this, but while Greta Thunberg travels around and becomes a star speaker, Boyan Slat is actually doing something to make the environment cleaner and better.
